With an 88-year history, Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Group has integrated its pharmaceutical resources to diversify the expression of its brand values and has long cultivated expertise in family health and preventive care. On the 18th, Lin Ming-Chuan, General Manager of Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Group, and Yen Po-Wen, Chief Executive Officer of the Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, jointly signed a Corporate Partnership for the Common Good Cooperation Agreement. In the first phase, Chung Mei will provide Tzu Chi volunteers with Health Protection Kits, enabling them to care for their own health while serving others. The second phase will establish a Health Academy to share knowledge on physical and mental well-being and help senior volunteers approach later life with greater confidence and ease. Through this cross-sector collaboration, both parties will contribute to charitable initiatives in Taiwan and abroad, as well as to sustainable development.
The concept for the first-phase Health Protection Kit grew out of Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Group’s core mission of health care and self-healing. Lin Yi-Lin, Brand Director of Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Group, said: “My mother became a certified Tzu Chi commissioner when I was nine, and my two siblings and I grew up in the Tzu Chi family. The senior Tzu Chi volunteers who accompanied us back then are now gray-haired and entering old age. We wanted to care for them with the same consideration we would give our own elders, helping them look after their health more effectively. That is how the idea of the Health Protection Kit for volunteers was born.” Whether caring for disadvantaged communities in remote areas or comforting disaster survivors and distributing supplies in affected regions, volunteers need to remain healthy in order to contribute their full strength. Chung Mei hopes that the first-phase kits will allow Tzu Chi volunteers to carry essential health support with them during outreach visits, so they can care for themselves and remain in the best possible condition wherever and whenever they serve.
The second phase will create the Health Academy, which will equip volunteers with practical health knowledge and help them understand how to face the inevitable aging process proactively. General Manager Lin Ming-Chuan said: “Knowledge creates strength. We plan to develop a series of health topics that will help volunteers care for their bodies as they enter their senior years, continue to realize their innate capacity for goodness, and live lives of genuine richness.” The Health Academy will also invite experts and experienced professionals from the health care and medical sectors to join in sharing the power of health knowledge with volunteers and the wider public.
Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Group has grown through a family tradition rooted in kindness and love and has developed into a corporate group. It currently comprises four companies: Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Chung Mei Biomedical, Hsin Chung Mei Biotechnology, and Japan Sentong Co., Ltd. Together, they cover manufacturing, research and development, distribution, and international expansion. In 2020, Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. received recognition at the 17th National Brand Yushan Awards. General Manager Lin Ming-Chuan noted that the Group has actively invested in ESG sustainability every year since its founding. He has also put these values into practice. Under the guidance of his mother, Li A-Li, his elder sister, Lin Yi-Lin, traveled to Sri Lanka, Mexico, and Myanmar to support international disaster relief, while his younger brother, Lin Wei-Chuan, volunteered in Japan by teaching Chinese to children. The family has led colleagues in sustained public-interest initiatives, including education in remote communities, health education, emergency relief, support for disadvantaged groups, and international disaster assistance. In addition to fulfilling its social responsibilities, Chung Mei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. established the Cangzhou Cultural and Educational Foundation in 2015 to support disadvantaged families and educational development. The Foundation also encourages and develops second-generation pharmacists from Chung Mei member pharmacies and has awarded annual scholarships for the past decade to young people who obtain pharmacist licenses, strengthening cohesion within the pharmacy community.
Yen Po-Wen, Chief Executive Officer of the Tzu Chi Charity Foundation, stated that the Corporate Partnership for the Common Good Cooperation Agreement encompasses charitable work in Taiwan and abroad, as well as sustainable development. The Corporate Partnership for the Common Good Program is a collaborative platform through which businesses from across society work with Tzu Chi to take part in charitable action. Chief Executive Officer Yen Po-Wen hopes that coordinated resources can support charitable assistance in Taiwan and internationally, including aid for disadvantaged families, children’s education, the safety of older adults, youth development, international emergency relief, and net-zero carbon initiatives. By bringing different parties together, the Program aims to inspire further connections and sustained action.
